The device which can copy 3 D objects is a 3D SCANNER!
A 3D scanner is one device which scans an available object and collects its physical appearences like size, colour, shape etc... The collected information is used to construct digital , 3 dimensional models which can be fed to the machines to generate replica of the objects. These are mainly used in the entertainment industry in making of movies and video games.
The main objective of 3D scanner is to create point cloud of geometrical samples on surfaces of the object. If colour information is collected at every point then colour on the surface of the object can be easily determined.

ENGINEERING DESIGN PROCESS!
The main purpose of the project is to create a replica of an object. The place where this machine is to be installed is to be maintained at standard conditions. The size of the room, ventilation, power source is selected. Doors are provided for repairing and cleaning of the machine and for refilling the raw materials for the production process.
We decided on 2 concepts using which the copy o the object could be created.
1. A 3D scanner : is a device that analyzes a real-world object or environment to collect data on its shape and possibly its appearance (i.e. color). The collected data can then be used to construct only digital 3 D models, useful for a wide variety of applications.
2. OBJECT COPIER: This machine id a fusion of a 3D scanner and assembly system. Here any object can be copied. It not only gives digital model, the object can be created as well.
We decided upon the second concept that is of the object copier due to a reason that Not only digital model is obtained but also a realistic one can be created.
We made a detailed study regarding various materials that could be used in the construction of the machine… and finally decided upon the following materials.. They are..
In the assembly system -Carbon steel is used in parts where no heavy load are required. Natural or synthetic rubber where movement of the system is needed. Widely used material in this machine is High strength low-allow (HSLA) steel which has great strength to lift and move heavy loads. HSLA is made up of chromium, nickel, molybdenum, vanadium, titanium… Besides being strong HSLA is resistant to atmospheric corrosions and is better suited to welding. All the electrical connections are made up of copper for wires, semi conducting materials like silicon or germanium for electrical circuits, and other ceramics and strong plastics are used.
In the 3 D scanner part of the machine HELIUM NEON laser is used. The best wavelength to this is 632.8 nm. It comes in the red portion of the visible spectrum. But the wavelength varies with the density of the object to be created. The composition of He Ne laser ranges from 5:1 to 20:1 ratio. He is at low pressure of 1 torr and Ne is at 0.1 torr. Energy source is by electrical discharge of around 1000 volts. Optical power output ranging from 1mW to 100mW is obtained. Lead is used in some parts of the machine to prevent leakage of laser radiation and for protection.
