Green computing is enviromentally responsible use of computers and related resources. It is becoming important day by day.Computers overall now account for 2% of world wide energy usage. IT companies need to take into account the energy consumption and find ways to reduce it.By upcoming various problems we can build more efficient and ecofriendly computers.

report 2
Making computers eco friendly

A standard 200W pc runnin for 8 hours a day,5 days a week,50 weeks in a year will use 400kW
of power. This can be reduced to a great extent by green computing. When we design new systems,we have to take into account the energy consumed by each and every component which contributes to the overall efficiency of the system. One of the ideas is to
reduce the "carbon footprint" of users-the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in terms of carbon di oxide (CO2) .Greenhouse gases naturally blanket the Earth and are responsible for its increasing temperature.

SOLAR COMPUTING
One of the means of green computing is solar computing.Solar energy can be used to power the computer systems through solar cells.Solar cells require very less maintainance through out lifetime and once the initial installation costs are covered they provide energy at virtually no cost.Solar powered devices are non polluting ,silent and highly reliable.

RECYCLING OF COMPUTER PARTS
Parts from the outdated systems can be salvaged and recycled through recycling centres. This can keep the harmful materials such as lead, mercury and hexavalent chromium out of landfills.

DISPLAY
LCD monitors typically use cathode fluorescent bulb to provide light for the display.Instead of this light emitting diodes(LED) could be used which require much less power when compared to cathode fluorrscent bulbs.
